The sanctuary is home to 14 elephants, mostly elderly, with a few younger ones, offering a half-day activity for visitors to learn about elephant conservation. Afterward, enjoy lunch at the Orchid Farm, located in the Mae Rim district, which is home to a cluster of four orchid and butterfly farms. Among these, Sai Nam Phueng Farm is Chiang Mai’s largest orchid farm, while the other farms—Mae Rim Orchid, Suan Bua Mae Sa, and Bai Orchid & Butterfly—offer unique vibes and beautiful settings. In the afternoon, visit Wat Suan Dok, also known as the Flower Garden Temple, located west of old Chiang Mai. The temple is famous for its small white chedis that house the ashes of many members of the Chiang Mai Royal Family, with the largest chedi housing a Buddhist relic. Founded in 1371, the temple has a rich history linked to the legendary monk Sumana Thera, who brought a holy relic to Chiang Mai. Part of the relic was enshrined at Wat Suan Dok, while another part was placed at Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. Next, explore Wat Phra Sing, built in 1345 on Sam Lan Road. This revered temple is home to Phra Phuttha Sihing, a Chiang Sean-style Buddha statue, enshrined in the beautifully crafted Vihan Lai Kham. During the Songkran festival in April, the statue is paraded around the town, where locals bath it with scented water for good luck.
