Day 3 - October 02, 2026

Athens, Greece

Begin your day with breakfast, then embark on a journey to Meteora, a site famed for its breathtaking rock monasteries. Each one perched dramatically atop towering cliffs, these monasteries are a marvel of spiritual and architectural achievement. Now a UNESCO World Heritage site, Meteora has intrigued visitors for centuries. The landscape itself is a geological masterpiece, with rock formations rising stunningly from the earth—nature’s mystery at its finest. In the 11th century, monks seeking refuge found their sanctuary here, living initially in caves. As danger increased, they sought safety by building monasteries high up on the peaks, reachable only by nets or wooden ladders that could be pulled up for protection. These bold feats of engineering remained the only way to access the monasteries until paths and roads were added in the 20th century. Today, you’ll have the chance to visit two of the six still-inhabited monasteries and catch a glimpse of the traditional nets still used for lifting provisions. Later, continue to Kalambaka for a delightful lunch before returning to Athens in the late afternoon. Along the way, pause at the historic Thermopylae monument. Back at the St. George Lycabettus Hotel, enjoy an evening of leisure to relax or explore at your own pace. Please remember to dress modestly during your monastery visits: skirts covering the knees for ladies, and long trousers for gentlemen. Shoulders must also remain covered.
