Start your day with a satisfying breakfast before setting off to the breathtaking region of Meteora, home to one of Greece's most spectacular and historic attractions. Towering rock formations cradle ancient monasteries that feel as though they've been suspended in time. These UNESCO-recognized wonders not only showcase incredible natural beauty but also hold immense cultural and spiritual importance. Centuries ago, during the 11th century, monks sought refuge in secluded caves within these rocks, driven by a need for tranquility and safety. As dangers grew over time, they climbed higher, eventually building their communities atop these dramatic peaks. While modern access is by stairs and pathways, you’ll see traditional ropes and nets still in use to transport supplies. Today, just six monasteries remain active out of the original 24, and you’ll visit two of them. After your time in Meteora, enjoy lunch in Kalambaka, a charming town nearby. Your journey concludes with a scenic drive back to Athens in the afternoon, passing the monument of King Leonidas at Thermopylae. Tonight, unwind at the elegant St. George Lycabettus Hotel, with the evening free for exploring or relaxing at your leisure. Please keep in mind: Modest attire is required for monastery visits.
