Athens, Greece
After breakfast, journey to the breathtaking Meteora, home to one of Greece's most remarkable clusters of monasteries. These extraordinary stone sanctuaries, perched atop towering cliffs, are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site for their unique blend of natural beauty and cultural importance. This area’s dramatic natural rock formations remain one of nature’s unsolved mysteries. Originally, 11th-century monks seeking solitude in nature began meditating in these rocky caves. Over time, they ascended higher and higher for safety before constructing monasteries at the very peaks. In those early days, access to these heights relied on nets or wooden ladders that monks hoisted themselves. Thankfully, modern pathways and steps now allow easy visitor access, while you’ll still spot nets in use today for daily supplies. You’ll explore two of the six remaining, now-inhabited monasteries, soaking in the serene energy and rich history of these sacred places. After leaving Meteora, head to Kalambaka to enjoy a delightful lunch. On your return to Athens in the late afternoon, pass by the iconic Thermopylae monument honoring King Leonidas. Spend your evening at leisure, unwinding in the upscale St. George Lycabettus Hotel overlooking the city skyline. Important: When visiting, dress modestly—ladies are requested to wear skirts falling below the knee with covered shoulders, while men should wear long pants and avoid sleeveless attire. (Includes breakfast, lunch, and overnight in Athens at St. George Lycabettus Hotel.)
